Our Server's Technical SpecsAvailable Bandwidth and RedundancyOur server is housed at a facility connected to eight (8) different Tier one backbone providers together to form the best network infrastructure in the industry. Their backbone border routers are Juniper M20's and their fully redundant switching layer comprises a certified six pack design of Ciscoª 6500 series switches. All server access switches in the datacenter, are Ciscoª 2950 series switches designed for maximum performance and uptime availability. Their current backbone provider list running the BGP4 protocol is listed below.
Server PlatformOur web hosting server runs on a system with a 2.8Ghz Pentium IV processor and 1024Mb of RAM, and a high-speed SCSI hard drive. It runs the RedHat Linux operating system, so this provides many times better performance out of this hardware platform than one would get using a resource-hungry OS like Windows NT, and doesn't suck like Windows does. We run the Apache web server, Perl, PHP4, and MySQL. Data BackupThe server is equipped with a separate backup hard drive and all critical configuration files and client files are backed up to that drive nightly. Electrical BackupThe servers are powered through 6 500KVA Powerware UPS battery backup systems with 90 batteries each (540 total) for up to 80 minutes of UPS battery backup power. This only comes into play if the 2 Cummins backup generators, with over 4000 gallons of diesel fuel, fail. We can operate for 15 days on generator power without a refuel. Couple these generators with three input electrical feeds to two different city grids in downtown Dallas and our electrical power uptime is as close to 100% as you can get in the real world.
No Microsoft products are used at MaiaTech in serving, programming, billing, or playing games. I use Internet Exploder on a PC (Piece of Crap) to see how much it has screwed up perfectly good websites that work fine in FireFox, Safari, Mozilla, and NetScape. All our servers are Linux and all our workstations are Macintosh OS X. If you want an NT server with FrontPage extensions or ASP, you'll have to look somewhere else, because we don't have any of that stuff. |
